Frag tank questions
So I picked up a 30 X 30 X 18 aga. Turning it to a frag tank. What's opinion out there on use of a skimmer?
It will have very little bioload. Maybe just a fish or two. I am thinking of also just using a n HOB filter.

I wouldn't use a skimmer unless you need one. If the tank is separate from your main system i'd probably just do regular water changes. It can be tough to keep nutrients correct without fish to feed. If you can, I'd consider connecting it to your main system. Makes things much easier and you don't really need to buy much equipment.

I threw a handful of chromis in my 60g FT/100g sump tank just for the nutrients they'll provide for the corals. I have a BM curve 5 on it and it is probably overkill.
I agree that on a 30g tank you really don't need one at all. One advantage of having separate systems is having an emergency tank in case something happens with one or the other. If they're tied together you lose that.

Thanks guys. Yes having the tank hooked up to the main definitely has advantages. I just don't have the option to do it.
A separate system can also act as a qt for new corals. It is very difficult to avoid adding AEFW even with dipping. I will try without a skimmer and dump and see what happens.

30" x 30" x 18" = 70 gallons, no?
Yes, depending in bioload/ food input/ water change % and schedule, you may not need one. I would still run a smaller model just for backup and gas exchange - say a Bubble Magus Curve 5 or smaller (SCA 301 maybe?), and if you will keep fish in it (I would have a hard time not putting some fish in it for example, such as a few Springer's damsels for flatworm control and nutrient "creation"), then I definitely would run a smaller model.

It will be an hob if I did one as I don't have a dump. But yeah it's a 70 gallon. Thanks
