Return Pump Setup/ cleaning

Hi all!

I occasionally like to clean my return pump but when I set it up there is not really an easy way for me to get it out of the tank. As you can see from the pictures below. This is my return pump connection. I just have the 5/8" hose attached directly to the pump and it was pretty difficult to get it on in the first place.

This is what my return flow connection looks like. It does screw off, but I have to keep it tight to keep the water from leaking out. When I do twist it to get it off, it twists my return hose up pretty good until I get it out. The screw fitting is starting to lose its "knobs" and will begin to get harder to unscrew.

My question...Is there an easier way?!

Thanks. I'm guessing the union would go where my return fitting is. I have the thread hose adapter already on there.

What about the connection to the pump itself, you would just leave it as is?

I screw a union straight onto my return pump. Then I use flex pvc for the first run to the first fitting. They have different ways to do it but I prefer using flex pvc because it glued into the same fittings as sch. 40 pvc does. I don’t like the restrictions of barb fittings.

LSUfan,

I couldn't see your picture. How do you go about screwing a union on the pump if it's a barb fitting like my pump?

5/8" barb to female thread (3/4" probably) adapter ----------3/4" threaded union-------5/8" barb to female thread (3/4" probably) adapter

So barb-union-barb and put it right inline in your existing 5/8" ID tube.. simply unscrew union as needed..

You could also find some push-lock fittings too
