Hydra 30 Quarantine Tank questions

Hi reefers!

First of all I want to apologise if this forum is not the right place for my post, I thought to place it on fish and disease forum, but my questions are not only related to the fish, so I decided to post here. Feel free to move the post to the right place if you think necessary.

Luckily I am reaching the end of my fallow period of more than two months due to a velvet outbreak. I am currently setting up my quarantine tank and I have a few questions.

I am trying to build my QT using all the equipment that I already have and save few bulks if it doesn't affect the correct behaviour of the system. I started into the reefing world with a all in one set up that contained a Hydra 30 filter, it didn't work so I have it on a box. Can I use Hydra as my filtration system for the QT?

After a lot of reading and research I found many articles that talk about quarantine any new animal that you want to add into the DT. My question is, can I use the same QT for fishes, corals and other animals? I would do the quarantine process independently, not mixing fishes with corals or invertebrates.

Thanks in advance.

You can use the filter you mentioned. You would want two separate QT systems for Fish and corals/inverts. Many medications used with Fish will kill corals and inverts hence why two systems are necessary

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I need to use two QT's although I would not quarantine fish and corals/invertebrates at the same time?

If I need to treat some fish with medicines I would remove the water and clean the entire tank before adding any new animal.
That's the reason for what I thought that I could use only one QT.
Thanks!

Depends on what meds you use... copper for instance will leech out of silicone even after the system has been sterilized. You could use only one for both providing you don’t have to treat with any harsh meds like copper

I have a separate QT for just fish, as I typically add cooper to that system. If you want a QT for corals and inverts you will need a separate system for that which doesn't have copper.
