Red Sea Max 250 Sump and Critters

I've got the RSM max 250 and have some rubble in the rear sump. I just did some pump maintenance and it appeared that there was quite a bit of crude laying in the bottom. I know there are some small collonista snails that have found there way in there, but I was curious about some larger snails.

Being the light does not shine into the sump, do you think some hermits or trochus snails could live in there, any suggestions, or just a bad idea? Im just trying to think of some ways to clean out that gunk, and I think that is why I can never get my nitrates below 10.
