Lemon Chromis Coloration
Hi everyone I am new to the Reef Central and I was wanting to ask about lemon chromis coloration.
I have had my two lemons for about a month and half and there are times when there will be black vertical strips down their sides but then they fade away. Is that a sign of stress? Or is it just similar to plecos that do a similar thing? |

Welcome to Reef Central!
Below are pictures of some of the 10 so called Lemon Chromis I ordered from Live Aquaria 2 weeks ago. They look nothing like the photo on their website. They have the dark vertical stripping and are a bluish color with a yellow tint on the main body. IMO what I received from LA were Staghorn Damselfish Amblyglyphidodon curacao. The dark vertical stripping has remained but not near as dark as when I first received them. Like many fish while under stress they look different then when they are relaxed and calmed down. To date my so called Lemon Chromis from LA have yet to develop the Yellow coloring across the upper body and dorsal fin. This is a picture of LA's Lemon Chromis. Below that are what I received from LA ordered as Lemon Chromis.

Strange I can see them just fine. Here let me make them a little smaller and see if that fixes it.

I don't have an explanation as to why they're doing it but those photos look just like the lemon chromis I purchased from LA. I no longer have them since I sold the tank that were in. As far as I can remember they got darker after lights out or after doing tank maintenance but most of the time they were yellow like the first picture. I say without a doubt those are lemons based off my experience.
