Trouble with Jebao pump

I have a PP4 and RW8 and they have been running fine for over a year. Now, whenever I turn them off, or if they are in pulse mode or synch on/off, they won't turn back on. I have cleaned them (vinegar bath) and I usually scrub them about every couple of months before this: They run fine in else or H or W2, but in W1 or C or during feeding or water change, once they are off, they won't come back on. I have to stick something into the prop and spin it anywhere from 1 to 10 times, then it will come on again. Is this just the death spiral of these pumps or is maybe there some fixable problem here?

Had same problem with DC skimmer pump. Time to replace - nothing you can fix...

Before you scrap them try changing out the bushings. The ceramic bushings they use tend to seize. I cut some bushings out of RODI tubing and replaced them. I've had my pumps now for almost 3 years and did this when I started experiencing lock up on one of the pumps. Since replacing the bushings I've haven't had any more issues.

This was several years ago, but everything I bought from Jaebo lasted less than a year. It’s cheap, but you get what you pay for. I have some Ecotech MP10s that I spent a lot more on, but they’re probably 7-8 years old.

I've had problems with one of my PP-15s. Shut it off, and it won't restart. Totally dead - but only apparently so. After replacing the bushings, using airline tubing, I noticed that the prop would "jerk" whenever I plugged it in. It was trying to start but didn't have enough torque to get it going. Playing around a while, I found that if I tried turning it on enough times (10 to 15 times) it would eventually start. It then runs until the power is turned off. After multiple tries it'll start again.

Same here, replaced the bushings with rodi tubing and it has been working fine ever since.

I had a Jebao RW15 wavemaker pump that i thought had died about a year ago.
Tried the usual vinegar bath , the impeller was not seized or bent , the impeller would only start then stop if i gave it a push. So i gave up on it because i thought the motor itself was dead. Last month i stumbled across a post where somebody said put the pump in hot water . Curious i tried this and hey presto the pump came alive . However in room temperature water it went back to not starting unless i gave the impeller a push.
After watching the impeller start and stop i had a sudden brain wave and i swapped the rubber gromit where the ceramic bushings sit in around. I took the one that sat in the base of the pump and put that in the top of the fan guard and took the one at the top of fan guard and put that into the base of the pump. Put it all together i turned the power on and the pump which i thought had given up its ghost more than two years ago fired right up and is working better than ever.

dlarmond: interesting trick: I will try that. I got both pumps working and if I don't turn them off, they stay on. Leaving them on in ELSE mode, and when I get the time, I will try your trick to see if that keeps them on, even after turning off.

Had two PP8s die in less than a year, same issue. Wish I would have tried the above technique, but anything that needs that many bush fixes isn't worth it to me. Moved to MP40s a year ago and haven't looked back.
