Oceanic 175 bow front
Hello RC! Want to thank all the members here for the knowledge they share for this hobby that has helped so many newbies as myself get hooked to the hobby and spend every free minute reading researching and shopping.
I wanted to share my new tank build. Picked up a oceanic 175 gallon Bowfront. Should be an fun and EXPENSIVE upgrade to my 75gallon sumpless mixed reef. Current setup on the 75g is the Current LOOP system. I love the control and features it offers. HOB BH2000 Reef Octo skimmer and diy algae scrubber that doesn’t swing a stick at the GHA problem I’ve had in the last 4 months. And a Tunze ATO. Pulled about 80% of the live rock out of the 75 this week and mixed it with a 100 pounds of dry rock in a 55gallon barrel. The live rock is leaching phosphates causing my algae condition. Checked it with my Hanna and it’s reading .046 in the barrel. Started dosing phosphate rx to help pull the phosphates out. I hope it works! So the clock for the Bowfront build started ticking. Once the rock is done i plan on setting it up. Still have to build the stand and get the Bowfront cleaned up and resealed. Should have plenty of time. Wild guess I’d say 2months. New gear for the bow front that I’ve already purchased is an ATI 6x80 Sunpower with 3x blue plus 1 purple plus 1 coral plus and 1 true actinic ATI bulbs, Lifereef skimmer, and 2X Vortech MP40wqd. Still planning on running a Current LOOP led for the 24hour light cycle and Current DC return pump. Plan to DIY a 55 gallon sump with refugium for under the tank and custom built stand with a canopy. The tank has 2 overflows with durso drains. I’d like some opinions on the overflows. I thought about running herbies and some over the rim returns. Any suggestions on this? I’d like it as silent as possible and easy. I like easy and things that just make sense and are proven.
