Quiet ozone reactor ?
I’m trying to run ozone into my skimmer but it dramatically affects the skimmers operation.
So I started to entertain the idea of a reactor but when I YouTube some examples I notice they tend to be rather loud. I have gone to great lengths to make my system dead silent. Are there quiet reactors out there ? |

I think the air pump on a reactor is going to make the most noise. Avast Marine is supposed to be coming out with a recirculating reactor and Geo's Reef make really nice reactors. The air pumps are far from quiet. The reactors not too much noise compared.

I have never heard any noise from my ozone reactor.

I'm in the market, been looking long and hard at the new Avast model. It's available on their site now. Waiting for my favorite vendor to get it so I can get the points.

A bit of an overkill for my 120. I'm looking for something with a smaller footprint. I have been using O3 for a long time, and my new skimmer doesn't work well with O3 as far as keeping the skimmer adjusted. It worked great with my old Becket style skimmer. Ah, the old days! The new Advast model uses an air pump to push air thru the O3 generator then into the reactor. It uses a recirculating pump to increase the contact time. Similar to a CaRX. I'm hoping their new model is quiet. Plus I already have a OZOTECH POSEIDON 220. Curious, why never a drier. "Critical to all corona discharge ozone systems is proper air preparation. Because the presence of moisture affects ozone production and leads to the formation of nitric acid, the gas feeding the ozone generator must be very dry (minimum -60 degrees F). Nitric acid is very corrosive to critical internal parts of a corona-discharge-based ozone generator, can cause premature failure, and will increase the frequency of required maintenance. Make sure you have reliable air drying equipment."

That said, if you decide you want a larger one, I can sell it without the generator. As for contact time, that is more a matter of the flow through the reactor and the amount of ozone being injected. The idea being that the ORP of the water leaving the reactor is higher than that of the tank water. On a calcium reactor, the circulation pump helps breakup the Co2 and distribute it into the water and you are also running much slower flow through a calcium reactor so the circulation pump becomes much more critical otherwise Co2 would just builds up in the top of the reactor. In my setup, the mezzei injector atomizes the ozone into the water. The air inside the reactor is always high in ozone so as the water passes over the biobale, the contact time is increased. It worked really well but I found I didn't need it so I only used it short time.

I'm not really in need of the ozone reactor, I run a AquaUV 25W on my system (would never run a reef without one) and my ORP is 420-450. It's one of those don't need it, but I want it.

I'm using a Geo oZone reactor. Very quiet. Been using it with a Poseidon 500 ozone reactor.
