Return pump choice?
Ok , I'm going to be in the market for a new return pump soon and have a couple questions.
I am currently running the Sicce Syncra silent 4.0 ac pump on my 57 DB rimless. it's rated at 951 gph. First , should I go to a DC return pump or stick with AC? Second, Why do you think so? I am planning this pump for a 75 gallon tank. Wishful of the Nuvo INT75 with a bean animal drain. |

If the pump you have works just fine (and it should) there is really little reason to switch..
And other than the "new/cool" factor.. There is really nothing that says you must have DC vs AC... Many of the DC pumps haven't been around long enough to prove their longevity.. The Sicce is a good pump..

Ive used many through the years. AC I’d recommend Fluval. Very quiet and good track record. DC I have used Varios pumps of different sizes and they are ok. I currently run Red Dragons which are awesome but are not in everyone’s budget. I’d agree with the above comments. Sicce are good pumps that have been around a long time. If you are set up for that maybe continue their use.

Thanks for the input. Yes the pump does still work but has allot of hours on it. I am chasing an intermittent ground fault and this is the oldest piece of equipment I have so I'm going to replace it soon as it may be the culprit.

I have run a reef octopus DC pump for 3 years now and love it... it is dead quiet, plus I like having the ability to dial up or down the flow rate.
