Skimmer Recommendations
I’ve got a 475 gallon aquarium fairly heavily stocked and about 200 gallons of other system volume between sumps and reactors. I don’t have sump room for an internal skimmer so I’m looking solely at an external setup. Could I get a recommendation from someone on what royal exclusiv skimmer they would recommend or if there was another nice brand they would recommend??? Thanks again for all the help!

Despite all the issues with spares in the past I went with a Deltec about 18 months ago and have been very happy with it on my 400. If you can put the skimmer somewhere where noise won’t be an issue a big lifereef works well. I have a vs72 in my qt room because I couldn’t take the noise of the pump required to run it on my display

Slief is the Royal Exclusive rep her on RC. Great guy and am sure he will chime in to give you his recommendations.

That big I'd go MTC, lifereef, Barr aquatics, MRC, your pushing 1000, gallons and flat out you need flow and height on the skimmer. Go in the Large tank forum a lot of us rock over 1000 g and ask what they are using.

It is how deep you get in it. Current Tank Info: 400g display build, 300g sump, 75g ATO, 75g refug and a few more. Close to a 1000g. 200g mixing station. |

I was actually leaning towards slief recommendations for a royal exclusiv deluxe 300. I’m not sure Lifereef is the style I want to go with. To me it just seems if that design were so good wouldn’t all these manufacturers start designing them that way? Maybe I’m missing something!

I would get a Lifereef skimmer for any tank 300g or more. Built to last, can be made custom to meet your needs, any brand of a properly size pump will work on these skimmers which is great since you are not limited to a single pump that is possibly expensive or becomes discontinued over time.
