Klir 4" filter
I picked up a Klir Di-4 this weekend at New Wave Aquaria in MN. I wanted to get one while they were in stock in case I couldn't later. They do not have the Red Sea adapter out yet but I'll give it a few weeks. If it doesn't come out it doesn't look like it would be hard to fabricate.

I have been out of reefing for a few years and came back to see these coming out.
This is the one that seems to impress me the most. My new custom tank will have a Shadow overflow, so I am interested to see someone use this with that adapter Klir is coming out with for DIY sumps. Also, isn't the replacement rolls only $10? |

Right off the intro, the replacement rolls jumped to $13.99.
40% increase from what was stated at RAP. |

Sorry for the late reply, I haven't received post notifications for some reason. I haven't set it up yet, it needs an adapter for Red Sea sumps and I had hoped they would be released soon however I heard a rumor that the Red Sea adapter will not be released until November. I have asked Klir on their FB page and they are not giving a release date on the adapter. My current plan, unless I find out the adapter will be released soon, is to build my own adapter with acrylic. I would prefer the Klir adapter but I do not want to wait 1+ month to use the filter.
I also need to determine my flow to see if I need two of the filters in the master/slave configuration. To that end I am building a manifold and installing a 1" flow meter to connect to the FMM on my Apex. I have an Octo Varios-6 rated for 1720GPH running at 80% for about 1376GPH but the Red Sea Reefer return is reduced to 5/8" so I am not sure what my flow is. 3/4" at low pressure can flow around 660GPH at 6 feet per second but at 12 f/s the flow goes to about 1,410GPH. So what I'm getting at is the Klir Di-4 is rated for 750GPH per filter so I may need two. I noticed the increase in the replacement fleece roll also. Although it is disappointing it's not the first time I've seen proposed pre-release pricing change post release. If it helps keep the tank clean, lasts a while, and makes maintenance easier I don't have a ploblem with $13.99 a roll. I'll keep an eye on the thread and update it as I go along. |

I received my Klir today. I'm in Canada. In my case the Klir fit perfectly into my filter sock port. The package included two white acrylic adapters for two different sizes of openings. The unit itself has one that can be removed if needed plus there are two other sizes. Did yours include those? I wonder if one of them fits the redsea sock ports.

I see. I haven't set mine up yet but I am excited to use it.
I too am unsure if I need a second one. I noticed they aren't selling the slave ones yet. I was tempted to buy a second until and try to set it up as a slave but I don't know for sure that I can. |

Got mine yesterday, will probably set it up tonight or tomorrow. I went from 200 micron filter socks to filter cups with foam sponges and bonded pads and it's still a chore. But the filter cups is still way better then the felt socks.

Well I've got the manifold built and installed, it is 1.25" at the pump (Octo Varios-6") reduced to 1" hose to 1" PVC. The first valve is for the media reactor. The second valve is for future expansion. The final outlet is a 5/8" barb for the return as that is what the Reefer 350 uses. I went with 1" for the Neptune 1" flow meter, and according to the flow meter I am getting 316GPH with the Varios at 80% and 336GPH at 100%. That seem low for a pump rated at 1720 GPH. Hopefully I'll get the adapter for the Klir built tomorrow.

There was a thread on clay-boa about substantially decreased flow for a Varios 8 and I forget but it was narrowed down to the controller after the user tried replacing the impeller then power supply.

I finally had time to install mine in my Red Sea Reefer 350. I made a bracket, it has a bit of bypass due to my lackluster milling abilities but the bulk of the water is being filtered. I may try to find a way to restrict the bypass but my primary thought is that this is a stopgap until Klir releases their adapter unless theirs has more bypass than mine.

I just installed mine today also. Seems like this brand is developed with the IceCap sumps as the model catalyst which is great for me since I have an IceCap sump. They had a hollow receiving spindle in my kit which was frustrating but luckily I had extra replacement rolls so I just hijacked one from there but you’d hope there was some QC involved.
But gotta love the plug and play compared to the other motorized fleece filters out there. |

I put this in my Apex for the outlet the Klir is connected to. My hope is that it shuts down the power to the Klir if my high water optical sensor for my ATO is on, my return pump outlet is off, or the Apex loses power. This is to avoid high water situations that are expected and do not mean the fleece needs to be advanced. I put in the defer 15:00 to let the water level settle after the sump level returns to normal. If anyone sees any errors please let me know.
Fallback ON Set ON If Swx3_2 = CLOSED Then OFF If Outlet RetPump_2_3 = OFF Then OFF If Power Apex Off 001 Then OFF Defer 15:00 Then ON |

Correction, I had an error on line 3. It should be:
Fallback ON Set ON If Swx3_2 CLOSED Then OFF If Outlet RetPump_2_3 = OFF Then OFF If Power Apex Off 001 Then OFF Defer 15:00 Then ON |

I wasn't pleased with the amount of bypass I was getting so I added EPDM extra small weather stripping, it has really helped cut down the bypass to a reasonable amount.

It has only advanced when I tested the motor and the picture shows how far I moved the fleece. The flow is still good and the water is clear, so far I am impressed. I was changing out filter socks (one mesh
and one 200 micron felt) every three days on average and I installed it on 9/3/2018.

That is a good sign.
I'm torn on this one because of its design. I have a custom 170g on the way and an entire new system to stand up from the ground. So, in picking out a sump design or purchase, I want it to be purpose built for technologies like roller mats. The Klir is made to go into an existing technology (A sump made for filter socks). In this case, I would need to buy a sump made for filter socks to be used with something made to replace filter socks. I am tempted though to find a sump made for a single 7" filter sock and buy the 7" Klir. That's almost twice the surface area for $50 more. |
