Peacock Exercise?
How important is it for a peacock to use it's smashers regularly?

I think it's always healthier for an animal to be able to use its natural abilities. Hunting live, hard-shelled prey seems to be good for them but if they're getting fed a varied diet and have good water quality then I'm not sure it's a huge deal that they aren't using their smashers a lot. Every now and then I'd agitate my old Peacock a little bit by bringing the tongs in close to the mouth of the burrow so she'd strike them. She never hit them that hard though. Emerald crabs always brought out the fury in her. She was too lazy to try to open up snails, haha.

If O. scyllarus don't have the opportunity to strike there is a small, but real increased chance that they will lose a raptorial appendage during a molt.

CUC is cheap if you buy by the dozens.

Thank you all! Now what if my peacock seems to have lost interest in hard food? He rockets towards my hand and grabs it expecting to be hand fed and will go 5 days without eating if I only offer live clams and nass snails until I give in and hand feed him again. Yea hand feed, not stick feed. I know I'm an idiot.

Sounds like your mantis has realised that you hand feeding means exerting less energy so manty now takes the easy option, id say just dont hand feed anymore, throw in some snails, sure if it gets hungry enough it will start to eat them.
