Selcon and Sea Grape

I used selcon for the 1st time. I added 5 drops to a cube of frozen brine. 1/2 of the brine went into a 20 gallon tank. In the tank I have some sea grape growing quite well. This was added around 8pm. Something crawled into my cannister output and almost completely stopped the flow. I think it was a sea slug since they are known to do that and there is one in the tank. When I noticed the tank the next morning the water was very cloudy, a side effect if you will when using selcon. The sea grape is normally dark green and very firm, but since this morning it is light green and very flimsy, it would seem like it all has died.

Would the selcon in the water do this?

I believe your sea grape is Caulerpa racemosa. I believe it "went sexual." It may have released toxins into your tank and may be deadk. I would do a water change and run some carbon if you can. You should test your ammonia. Are the animals in your tank acting OK?

Thank you for your reply. After researching your answer that would appear to be the cause. The fact that I used selcon for the 1st time may have triggered the reaction since water changes have an influence. It's also possible it was mere coincidence!
