Anthias ID please...

I got this little guy over the weekend, relatively sure he was a lyretail. However, examining more pictures of anthias varieties, I'm completely confused now. He has a red stripe up the 'aft' edge of his tail that I don't see in other pictures. Like lipstick or a paint stripe.

So any anthias lovers out there can point me in the right direction for an ID?

Not sure, but I'm thinking a Hawaiian bi-color anthias?

His body looks like it has a yellow base with a thin purple finish over that, a purple dorsal and the tail is red. Sorry I dont have a better picture.... Closest match is a Yellow Anthias, but the tail is still different.

Yeah, that diesn't sound like a Yellow Anthias. I just purchased one about a week ago, and it is basically yellow all over, with a hint of red on the body. Try a search for Hawaiian Anthias on the web and see if that isn't what he looks like. Sorry, couldn't be of more help.

Thanks for trying. I've been all over the web and found some that are close on fishbase.com, saltwaterfish.com, saltcorner.com but no cigars. None.

Hopefully somebody can chime in soon....

Looks like wrasse instead of an anthias to me. Do you have a picture with the fins opened? Might be Paracheilinus sp.

It doesn't look like a Lyretail. The Males will have a red dot on the dorsal fins. The females have a pink stripe that runs from the eye to the dorsal fin.

The male in the picture is a little dark but you can see the red spot. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...d=21&pCatId=54

I'd say its a bartlett's too but the tail doesn't look right.

I agree not a Bartlett's, but I'm no expert. The tail has a larger red blob on the top and bottom tips, and a stripe that's pretty thin up the edge. The body coloration is a light pinkish with yellow undertones - really hard to describe.

He's not eating much - he ate some meaty stuff earlier but is kind of slowing down now. I hope he's going to be okay.... Meanwhile I"ll try to get a better photo of him.

This photo of a Pseudoanthias kashiwae doesn't match. It has more green in the body and the pec fins are bluish. Either that or it's a different sex.
http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...d=21&pCatId=93

The fins are a very light pink - almost transparent, except for the dorsal which is a bright purple.

Pseudanthias hypselosoma

I may have just found it here
http://www.reefimages.com/cgi-reefim...s&slide=11.jpg
Stocky or Siverstreak anthias, Female, Pseudanthias hypselosoma
The colors match and the tail streak is the same.

She's not eating, so it's not looking very good right now. Thanks for your help!

Try some Live Brine. If it likes it use brine for several days then introduce frozen. If it takes frozen try Mysis shrimp after a few days.

Mine at this point will even eat flake food. It also loves the CYCLOP-EEZE frozen bar.

So, did this fish mature into a stocky anthias? We recently picked up some of these little pink anthias with the red tips to the tail and can't decide if they are juvi red belted P. rubrizonatus or juvi Stocky anthias. Do you have any updated pics?

Sorry, but that fish did not survive long. I think it was a silversides. Since then I've also gotten out of the hobby and got rid of my tank and gear.
