Hi,
This skimmer has been around for a few months. www.acicorp.us says their a good skimmer, but I am not convinced yet. When the skimmer arrives, I'll post a short take on it. FYI, yes the skimmer is sumpless and sits below the tank. It has to have the sumpless kit to work this way, though. Paul |

That has got to be the ugliest thing I've ever seen.

Hi again,
I know I know. I just run a couple canisters on my tank, but just wanted to see if a skimmer would help. It'll be hidden behind the front panel of the tank, so I dont have to look at it. Paul |

That skimmer has been around for more than a few months. Here it is a DrsFosterSmith.com
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Produc...&N=2004+113771 Supposedly the D&D Marine products are more popular in Europe.

Hi,
I got mine today, but I did not get the sumpless kit. So, It'll be a few more days before I can get it installed. I used to own a Kent Nautilus TE skimmer, and there is much more to this skimmer than that one. For example, theres many plumbing parts to be assembled; fit and finish look first rate. Paul |

That skimmer has been around for a VERY long time in one form or another. I'm talking over 6 years at least, if not more like 10 years. I remember seeing those skimmers in catalogs like That Fish Place and the old Pet Warehouse (now Drs Foster and Smith) way back when.
As far as whether it's good or not, I have no idea, never seen one in use. The collection cup looks very bizarre, I don't understand how it would work exactly. -Tim

There really isn't a skimmer cup per say. The cone shape at the top is not meant to collect any skimmate. Supposedly it is shaped such that the foam rises easily but then is forced out through the pvc fitting with vinyl hosing to a collection container. I had one of the hang on V-Star models for a while that worked "OK" for what it was. But I wouldn't say it was a kick butt skimmer.
