Best light cycle for maximum cheato growth?

24/7 or reverse cycle?

TTT

I am also curious about this. Can Chaetomorpha handle the 24 hour photoperiod?

Ok so manualy running through the last 3-4 months of posts has turned up a few references to running 24/7. Here's one thread that disscuses Chaeto a bit.

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...readid=584948.

I guess I'm going 24/7 for now.

I run 16on/8off a day on a reverse cycle with the main tank lighting. This helps stabilize the ph, gives both the chaeto and corals a chance to perspire (rest), and the chaeto grows like mad.

The only place in the natural world that might get 24/7 lighting is the north or south pole, and I don't think chaeto grows there

Had a long post prepared, thought better of it.

In short. Some algaes can do well with 24/7 lighting. The purpose of this post was to try to find out if Chaetomorpha is one of them.

There are quite a few references to the fact that it can be kept with 24/7 lighting.

Not all plants and algaes need the dark period. It has different effects on different types of plants/algea. Some plants will grow fine with 24/7 lighting, but they won't flower/bear friut. In some algaes the 24/7 limits it's ability to go sexual and crash.

Nature has very little to do with our glass boxes.

That being said, I have decided to go with 14 on 10 off. Mainly for the afore mentioned reduction in PH swing.

Chris
