DIY LED Array

Finished putting this together today for a little 10" cube I'll be starting out soon. First SW...and being a DIYer at heart, I had to do this I have done some luxeon projects in the past though on some FW tanks

I brought them home and set up the tripod/camera.

Comparison photo..EVERYING is identical...iso/aperature/shuttersheed/WB. The other light is a 2x13 AH supply kit (with reflectors). Lights are about 18" from the wall (guestimating) at an angle so that I can get the photo. I also took a photo with the lights off, and the photo came out black, so no room light in those photos.

Below is the array:

Gomer,
Will these be your only lights?

Fascinating. About how much did the LED array cost you? It would be interesting to see how these work , what type of corals are you going to try? If you can get these to work, I am sure there would be a nice market out there for these things.

The plan is to have the tank with LED light only. No other supplimentation.

The LEDs (I ordered 350 and used 288) rank $51 shipped. I had the Xitanium drivers already from another project, but I think I paid $20 each for them.

Not sure on the type of coral I will try

Mind posting picture about the wiring and more specific information (i.e. cap, res, etc.)?

ooo, that's a good idea, I wonder if I can use a lite brite to hold my LEDs instead of drilling, I'm building a ~700 led array for a 10g.

I can't remember how big they are though.

I'm planning on using a ATX powersupply with all the LEDs in parralel on the 3.3v output, it handles 28A on the one I ordered, I think I'm also going to use a smaller 12v charger to run some of the blues and UVs for a moonlight.

Gomer, your next project is to display different patterns by using a microcontroller, make it display the different phases of the moon in a 28-day cycle.

The LED array is 2 sections where every other row is part of a section. Those 2 sections are made up of 19 strings of 8 in series. There are no resisters or capacitors. The LEDs are driven with a pair of 350mA drivers (current instead of the typical voltage sources)

Gomer,
I am planning the same LED panel with 11" cube. Would you mind asking U some question.

1. As I know, LED specification stated the color temp., angle and mcd, what is the color temp., angle & mcd of your LED does?
2. How to define the blue LED distribution?
3. How long(mm) each LED apart from.
4. For each LED having 20mA current, How much power(W) consumed from the main source for this 16 X 18 LED panel?

Thanks & wait for your reply!
