What're the Little White Fuzzy Things?

Im starting to see these pea-sized, white cotton ball looking things growing in a few spots. It looks like it has a feather duster coming out of one end. Any idea what it might be? Our digital camera has been "misplaced" so I cant take a pic of it.

Probably Scypha sponges. They're harmless. (Actually good because they bind up silicates which diatoms also like).

EDIT: They also go by the name pineapple sponge or Q-Tip spongs.
