Sump for 30 gallon
I am in the planning stages for a 30 gallon aquarium, which will include an overflow. I was wondering if a 10 gallon aquarium will be a sufficient sump? All I want to use the sump for is to house an in-sump skimmer and a mag drive pump with the appropriate overflow and return piping.

It should work, but I would go bigger if you can. 10g is not a lot of water to handle evaporation, unless you intend to add an auto top off.

Most likely I will get an auto topoff. It will be an open top aquarium (measuring 24"L x 24"w x 12"H) and I plan on hanging a pendant, so I am sure there will be a good deal of evaporation.
I just don't want to spend the $$ on a pre-made sump, and with this sized tank a 10 gal will fit perfectly underneath the stand. I don't plan on doing any drilling. |

I think the 15g has the same foot print if you can find one. Evap is on a problem if you plan to go on vacation for a week and don't have auto topoff.
