Bulkhead size question

Hi all

I have a simple question. I am rebuilding my sump. My pump is an Iwaki 70. The pump has a 1in input. The pump is going to sit beside the tank, but I need to run about 4 feet of pipe from the front of the tank to the pump.

Will I have any advantages to use 1 1/2 in bulk head and then adapt the size down at the pump, or should I use 1in bulkhead and run 1in pipe the whole way?

I will be using flex pvc.

I'm looking for some opinions

Thanks

To me, this is the what if question. Some people set up a tank and then just leave it setup and others are always making changes.

If you like making changes, have the room, etc... then use a 1 1/2" bulkhead. Since 1 1/2" fitting/Spa-Flex are more expensive and take up more room; you may find the 1 1/2" bulkhead while "nice" not very functional.

Personally, I even cuss the 1" spa-flex plumbing on my 125 gal. I am planning my next tank and bought a 1 1/2" bulkhead and plumbing. For the short distance from the sump to the pump You won't notice much difference in performance.
