Schedule 80 vs Schedule 40 bulkheads?
Sorry, I can't search.
Sorry. The search function has been temporarily disabled due to high server load. Please try your search again in a few minutes. I just ordered a Schedule 40 1 1/2" bulkhead off marinedepot to connect to my panworld 50px-x. I was wondering if I should upgrade to a Schedule 80? Is it worth it for low pressure aquarium plumbing? Thanks BTW: I havn't drilled the hole yet, but I would be mad if I wasted $8.50 on this bulkhead.... |

I haven't used an 80 but I understand the machining is better (less leaking) and they're more robust (less prone to cracking). The return on my 75 goes through a bulkhead, and I'm having trouble with my rigid plumbing putting a bit of torque on it and the gasket leaking. I think the best solution for me is to switch it over to spaflex, because I don't want to take the whole thing down and drill out a larger hole for a schedule 80 bulkhead.

Well then mine should be OK. The bulkhead will connect directly to the pump(well, 6" of 1.5" tubing).

i'd want 80 if i was threading into the flange side of the fitting (a bit too tight and/or too much tape can split them). otherwise, most people go with 80 just because they are a bit sexier looking.

I'm going with all Schedule 80's on my new tank. I don't want to have a bulkhead leak when I'm on vacation/out of town and let 100+ gallons of water go on the floor.
If its already drilled and you can't drill it out more, make sure you don't twist the bulkhead or torque it funny. |

If you have a choice, definitely go with 80. The sched 40 ones just break way too easy during installation. Talk about wasting $8.50 the fast way...

Would a double threaded schedule 80 work with all my schedule 40 parts? With such low PSI though, I just don't see how schedule 40 wouldn't work. I'm kinda tight on money right now, couldn't I just drill the hole out later for a larger bulkhead? Al I have to do is make a wood jig to hold it in place.

most people have the trouble of overtightening, thats why it breaks thus why the suggestion is to get sch 80.

Yeah...it has nothing to do with water pressure...

I hand tightened the smaller 1" one(schedule 40), and it never felt like it was going to break. If seals are a probelm I can just get some EDPM ones off mcmaster for like $0.50 since my brother orders from there all the time.
