Help with 60 gallon Please.
My 60 gallon has been unattended to since last summer when all of my fish died after I introduced a diseased Royal Gramma. I have about 100 lbs of live rock in there. Now, I a getting back into the hobby and want to redo my tank. Anthony Calfo said that I should keep the live rock, but I should do a 100% water change on my tank. So here's my question: Will the live rock be okay in the newly mixed/made water? Can I plop the rock in as soon as the tank is filled? Please, help.

I would leave 15%-25% of current water and your rock will be fine. if you are uneasy about doing a 100% water change then do 75% and another 25% in a week.

yes, it'll be fine. You may want to consider "cooking" your LR for a period of time as well as taking the time to scrub any nuisance algae off of it that may have started inhabiting it during this period of "dead tank syndrome."
Do a search on "rock cooking" if you're interested in cleaning it up. |

Wouldn't cooking the rock kill all of the "good stuff" on the rock?

Nevermind about that. I don't really mind if it is cleaned up or not. I just want to know if doing a 100% and then adding the live rock into newly mixed water will kill the "good stuff" on the live rock.

It shouldn’t hurt it, I switch a complete reef over to a new tank with all new water, corals rock and all no problems.

It really depends on how different the new water is from the old water you're changing. All in all, most 'things' will survive just as they would when you first put it into your tank. As long as the water is the right temp and salinity, I don't see a problem with 100%.

I'll have to see what the salinity of it is now. I can easily match the temp. and the brand of salt I used. I'm going to do the 100% change as long as no one objects...
