T5/MH combo fixtures
Are there any 4' combo fixtures that have 2 x 250w DE MH and 4 T5 bulbs?

If you're going to go T5/MH, why not go retrofit and/or pendants so you can re-use the parts on your next tank? Odds are when you upgrade it won't be 48".

Well, I've got ROIII pendants now with remote ballasts. I can definitely reuse the remote ballasts assuming the replacement light fixture utilizes remote ballasts.
I'm just looking for a nice 1 piece fixture (with external ballasts) because the back side of my tank currently is open to my dining room and needs to look "nice"...otherwise you know who won't approve. I'll probably just end up getting a Maristar...I just thought it would be nice to have 4 T5s so I could run the metal halides a shorter time. With 2 T5s I should be able to get better colors/growth than I can get with the MHs alone (currently using Phoenix 14k).

Lucky for you I've been looking for the exact same thing. ;-) I think this fixture would be the holy grail for 4' tanks! There are a few, I have one on order -
- Aqua-Medic Sunlight NG - due to a fire, AM is delayed though. If you have at least a few weeks you can get one ~$1,300 - Aquaperfekt Photon - you can get these from Brian @ Finsreef ~$1,900 - Sfiligoi - I believe Brian can also get this, but I have no idea of the pricing. I think its in the middle of the other two. I have the AM coming. The bummer on that is all internal ballasts, I plan on removing them. It might be worth the wait or expense though. I've been running my T5 for 12 hours and my MH for 4 hours and getting very good growth and very good color. I plan on running the same photoperiod with this fixture, maybe increase MH to 5 max.

I also have a "you know who" that has veto power over everything from a design standpoint. She didn't like the Maristar. I have a Giesemann up now and she got used to it, saw the Maristar and said no way. Women.

That really stinks about the internal ballasts on the AM unit.
For the price of that Photon I could put doors on the back of my cabinet, add some T5 retrofits, buy a chiller, and pay my electric bill to run it for a couple years! Ouch! Here are some links I found for the interested: Grotech Photon Plus: http://www.grotech.de/ENGLISH/index....haengeleuchten Sfiligoi Inifinity XR4: http://www.sfiligoi.it/prod_infinity_en.htm

Yeah the Photon is expensive! I'm not sure about the sfiligoi though. My order from AM has been going on for quite a while now, and to be honest - if I'd seen the XR4 before I ordered the AM, I probably would have bought it. It is SUPER cool looking. And when you win the lottery you can add their famous MH dimmers!

Javajaws, I got it in today. It is very, very cool. Better than I expected. Very bright lights and the T5 reflectors are mirrored like Icecaps. It is also much bigger than I expected. The reflectors are huge. I will post pics, but I am very impressed, especially for the price.
The bummer is the internal ballasts, but in time I plan on removing them.

Sweet...definitely post some pics when you can. What are the dimensions (front-to-back)?

Fliger... on he AM Sunlight NG do the pair of T5 bulbs on each side share the same reflector or do each have their own parabolic reflector?

Just popped on for a sec - javajaws, its very wide. The widest pendant I have ever seen. It is almost 17" front to back, the T5 spans this entire area.
dgill - each pair shares a bat like reflector. But it is as shiny as the IC reflectors, which I am using and really like (on a cube tank). It is very bright. I have not hung it, but I did turn it on suspended above the ground and was really impressed with the coverage. I promise to take some detailed photos. It is very nice looking. Mine is black, and it has a silver trim that looks really nice. Even my very picky wife said it was the coolest looking pendant I've ever had, even more than the Giesemann Eco I have now.

Fliger... sounds like you made a good decision... the picture of the Sfiligoi seems to have two T5 bulbs almost side-by-side sharing a simple (flat?) reflector, and this has to direct less light down than what you describe (bat wing reflectors). I'm looking at the 49"L Grotech Photon Plus, but still not sure. I can't seem to find anyone using this fixture but then again at $1800, there may not be many around.

I almost bought one a while back. I talked with folks who had seen them and they all said, its a nice fixture but maybe not worth all the extra money. I heard the SE reflectors weren't very good, but the DE were good. You can talk with Brian at finsreef or Eric at **********, they have both used them. They got an endorsement from Klaus Jansen, hard to beat that!
http://www.zeovit.com/forums/showthr...ghlight=photon I was confused about the side by side T5 on the sfiligoi also, but I talked with finsreef, and he said the XR4 is configured with 2 side by side 48" (54W bulbs) - 4 total just like the Sunlight NG. I don't know why the pix I've seen of the 48" fixtures has 2x24W on each side. Might be an old model. I would have a hard time deciding between the sfiligoi & the NG if I were buying today. When I plunked the order down, the sfiligoi wasn't available. The REALLY COOL thing about those is that for another buncha cash you can buy the dimmers.

Just found the website for a German hobbyist using the Grotech Photon Plus... interesting in that he shows 3 photos, one with older halide lighting, one with all T5 and the most recent with the Photon Plus. Is it me, or does the T5 tank actually look better?

I realized last night that this pendant has six moonlights built in. Its actually a little too bright, I might cover a couple LED's up. I'm really happy with the unit, it definitely exceeded my expectations.

I like those Aquaconnect Lumimaster units. You could swap out the reflectors, ballast, etc. They seem completely modular, and for a reasonable price too. Anyone seen them around here?

I already tried to have the Aquaconnect pendant imported in, no luck. I think Aquaconnect and Arcadia were the two other companies that had high end products that had no intention on importing. Just like the ATI T5 pendants.
US consumers are typically about more for less, and high quality craftsmanship isn't high on our priority list. So we miss out on a lot of products. If we bought them, they'd import them, but we just don't buy them enough for many companies to deal with exporting them here. G.Alexandar has one of the nicest tanks anywhere, he uses the Aquaconnect pendant. If you view this thread, get ready for your eyes to pop out of your head. ;-) http://www.zeovit.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2399

Too bad. I would buy that Aquaconnect fixture if it were available. It seems like the T5 market needs more competition...the only choices we have in the states are either crap CurrentUSA or things with flat reflectors, and the tek light. The best options so far are to DIY with nicer individual reflectors and ballasts.
So whats the current list of higher-end mfg's that I can get in the states for T5? ATI maybe? |

Okay, I found it... the Giesemann INFINITI with 2 x 250W and 4 x 54W T5. They also have a longer version available for people that need 3 x DE MH and 72" length.

Damn, those are SEEEEEXY! Giesemann is one company who you'll have a better chance getting something custom in. Ask Phil over on the G forum, or better - find the G dealer in your area. My local guy could get me in just about whatever I wanted from them.
My guess is these will run you over $1,500USD if you could get it here. Hello all, I would like to keep this thread going. I'm very interested in Sfiligoi products as fliger mentioned these are the guys that make that awesome dimmable ballast. So I contacted them via email and I've been going back and forth with Alessandro. I'm waiting on his reply with Pricing and availability in the US. This is what he has for me thus far:
