Carbon Reactor
Considerations for use:
Reef Carbon is also soft (this is due to pore size and makeup) and could release dust into the system if mechanically stirred too rapidly. Do not place where water will drop a large distance directly onto the product or churn it violently. Because Reef Carbon is so active, you can use considerably less than with other carbons (about 1/4 lb. or 1 cupful per 100 gallons of tank capacity, you may need more or less depending on how dirty the tank is). Reef Carbon will have done its job, so dose the tank with Kent Marine Essential Elements, Discus Essential, Freshwater Essential, or A F Cichlid Rift Lake Trace Elements as appropriate for your type of system to restore trace elements removed by any carbon. CAUTION: Recent products introduced by other manufacturers that contain strong enzymes may dissolve the binder that holds Reef Carbon together. If this happens the carbon can come apart and cause an ugly mess in your tank. Because of this, DO NOT USE ENZYME PRODUCTS WITH Reef Carbon! Simply remove the carbon, use the product, then replace the carbon several days later. ARIGHTY THATS PRETTY MUCH THE DIRECTIONS I GUESS MY QUESTION IS IN THE PHOSBAN REACTOR FULL OF KENTMARINE CARBON WITH A RIO 180, IS THIS TOO MUCH CARBON?, I JUST TURNED OFF MY PUMP TO THE REACTOR CAUSE I READ THE DIRECTIONS SO I WAS AFRAID THAT I WAS REMOVING TRACE ELEMENTS, O YA AND MY SKIMMER STOP SKIMMING, MAY BE A INDICATION THAT IT REMOVED ALOT OF ORGANICS I GUESS. |

I would not be worried...Remember, you're reading the marketing spin on a product. And within that spin, they are recommending using more of their own product. Nice little self-fufilling prophecy there huh?
I run a Magnum350 canister filled with carbon 24/7 on my system. I know many people that do the same. Just keep to your water change regimen and you'll be fine. I do not recommend to anyone to add "trace elements" that you do not first test for to know where the levels are at.

In your phosband reactor, are you still running the carbon is a filter sock, media bag sort of thing? or are you just filling up the reactor like you would with phosban?
