Info. on Pumps and Powerheads?

In planning my reef tank, I am finding the choice or return pumps and in-tank powerheads overwhelming (too many choices). Is there a good write-up somewhere on these and what to use for different flows, head conditions, fitting sizes, etc.?

i woudl get a mag7 for return and a 1/2inch sea swirl.
