Question regarding Alveopora polyp extension

I added a nice specimen of alveopora to my 7 gallon nano about 7 weeks ago. It appears to be doing nicely, and except for a day or two (a few weeks ago) where it did not extend completely, it always looks terrific.

Recently, though, a coworker/reefer told me the polyps are extended too far. The tank is on my office desk, and when I arrive in the morning the polyps are open, due to ambient room light, but they're close to the skeleton. After the tank lights have been on for an hour, the polyps are extended to about 1 to 1.5 inches.

Do I have any cause for concern, or is this the normal polyp extension for these corals? Thanks.

I have a large Alveopora in my 80g. It has grown quite large in the last years and likes medium-high light / low flow. The polyps extend up to 2 inches when it is content. However, the last few days it has been a bit unhappy with me. I have been toying with my calc reactor and kalk reactor to create a constant pH. I have noticed that Alveopora is very sensitive to chemistry changes.

Thanks Gill. The suggestion that the coral is not healthy, due to the long polyp extension was a bit unnerving to me. However, it looks like a million bucks to my novice eye. I understand the species can be a difficult one, so I need to to be certain that it's thriving. It's my hammer that seems to complain more when chemistry fluctuates, but my alveo has seemed to remain pretty stable, for the most part. Good to hear you've kept a specimen happy for a few years. Good luck with yours, as well, and thank you.

One more question, considering your success; I do keep the coral under fairly bright light with low flow, but I've read conflicting reports as to whether they should be fed, or not. Do you indeed feed it, and if so, with what, and how often? I occassionally add DT's to the tank, but I don't know if my regemine is enough. Thanks.

is it that clear color in reality or is it the camera or my monitor? cuz if it is, it MAY be bleached. but i think jennkerry or reefartist would probably know for sure. other than the possible bleaching i think it looks nice.

i have 2 gonis that i feed 3x/week with dt's live phyto, cyclop-eeze & microvert. i know they're not the same as alveos but are similar.

It actually has a kind of light pinkish/tanish color to the stems, and the tops a light green that fluoresces under the blues. Definately not bleached, except by a crappy digital camera!

Your Alveopora looks awesome, no need for concern at all.

When they are happy and content, there polyps will come all the way out like that.
