Hot VHOs?

I'm about to build the hood for my 29g. My concern is that my set-up will require a 75w VHO bulb to be alomost touching my hang on filter. Would that bulb get hot enough to melt the filter?

Like, how close? I'd imagine if you were 1/2" or so, maybe even a bit closer, you'd be fine. The bulbs don't get that hot....I don't think hot enough to melt plastic. You're talking somewhere in the middlse of the bulb, right? Sometimes the ends tend to run a bit warmer.

It probably wont be much more than 1/4", which is why i was concerned. The problem is that if I move it farther away, it will push the bulb on the other side over the edge of the tank.
