dying tang from pH drop

Tuesday night my pH dropped from 8.3 down to 7.25 within a few hours. My co2 tank, for some reason, started giving off a tremendous amount of gas- enough to push most of the water out of the reactor. I did not have my controller set right, so it did no good.

I obviously shut off the gas, added my old skimmer to my sump to aerate, and added some limewater to bring up the pH a bit. By morning, pH was back to normal. I have a mixed reef, and the only thing that showed any reaction at the time was the anemone, who deflated to half its size.

I came home tonight(2 nights after), and my blonde naso tang is nearly dead. It is lying in the corner, gills barely moving. My other fish are fine( a scopas tang, clown, blenny, and damsel).

Did the pH drop cause this? Is there any way of saving him now?

A quick drop in pH followed by another quick rise in pH could cause this, stability in your tank over time will help with your naso.
