Red Sea claims to get you 8.1-8.3 in RO/DI water. All bets are off for tap in your area.

Thanks. Do you think tap water will make that much of a difference? What is in tap water that will be buffering the Ph?

THe problem I'm having is trying to determine the reliability of my Pinpoint Marine Ph Monitor. Although I calibrated it, the calibration was a long process and I'm not sure if the probe is working. Before running off to buy some Ph test kits or another probe, I figured knowing the Ph of a specific salt mix would be a test for the validity of the probe. Although I'm using RO/DI water, I want to ensure that minor impurities won't affect the Ph significantly.
My tank Ph is reading 7.65, freshly mixed salt water is reading 7.58. I have no real reason to suspect my tanks Ph has dropped recently, although I have been adding anhydrous CaCl2 to boost my level recently. |
