are MH magnetic ballasts this loud?

I've never used MH before and I purchased a dual 250w kit with a dual 250w hamilton magnetic ballast.

To me, the hum is unbelievably loud. I can hear it throughout my house, even upstairs. I expected a hum, but not one this loud. Is this normal for MH magnetic ballasts?

funny thing...my friend bought a meg. hamilton ballast too and i think its loud too.
I have a icecap electronic and no noise at all.

my PFO is magnetic but not loud. i hear a little humm when i first turn them on but thats it.

that's strange, I had Hami's 175w Mag ballast and they weren't loud. Only during firing stage but it gets muffled away with other tank noise like water and pumps

I took the case off and tightened the nuts and bolts holding the transformer and capacitor on. One side is much quieter now. The other side is still loud. one of the brackets is a bit bent.
