how long has it been running for? is it not skimming at all? is it brand new???. Alot of skimmers have a break in period for wich the skimmer needs to run for a week or two in order for it to produce skimmate. Some reasons may be due to residual oils from the manufacturing process that prevent the skimming. If thats the case ( or being brand new ) just give it a few days or so. good luck!

the skimmer is several months so it is not that. i just took it off the tank and cleaned the rio and the skimmer its self. i also replaced all the air tubing and replaced the air intake with an adjustable one so we will see how that does.

get one of those little blue air adjustment control things. I think they are made by Lee's Aquarium Supplies. They are actually pretty nifty and real cheap, like a dollar for 3.

I just threaded a air hose down the output side of my bakpak into the bubble chamber of the skimmer it increased the output greatly it is a machine now. I also have a 75 cent air valve on the air intake. it takes some adjustment of the skimmer cup to produce a nice stinky dry foam.
