Lots of Light, looking for people who think they have the most light possible

Hi,

I'm starting this thread to get an idea of how much light some people have on their tanks.

I just added another 330W of VHO to tank bringing my lighting total to 530W VHO and 500 W halide.

That's 1030 W in a 6' long, 20" deep tank.

Who's got more than this? I'm sure there are some 25W/Gallon people out there.

Will

I agree you can have that much light over some murky swamp water And that light isnt going to be worth squat it wont even penetrate the water line to the botom. I have 2x250w MH and 2x400w MH (im only useing one 400 though) over a 230g

Abysswater,

RichConley,

I never said it was, but generally it is better. All a matter of personal preference.

I'm running 175W of Mh and 220w of atinic on a 45G.

And I've only got 3 X 400W DE MH on my 400G. plus 220w atinic PC.

The person with the most light is the one with the tank in front of the window

That will be me in a few more months when the 400G gets moved into the new sunroom with a south facing window. Then the 400's will just be used as "suplemental" lighting.

The bigger question with all these lights is what K rating are you running?

My 175 MH is a 10K XM and actually looks brighter than my 3 400W DE MH which are 2 X 20K and 1 X 14K.

I will have 2x65w PC Actinics and 1x250w MH over my 29g. That's 380w. About ~13 watts per gallon.

Now that I think of it, I have 500w of MH + 190w of VHO actinic over my 58.

That's over 10

--
I think Lunchbucket had a 400w over his 20. Think that's the most extreme I've seen [he's got 400's over his 58, I think, too].

My 180 gallon tank has now -

2 6' 160w VHO = 330w
3 250w tru 10k MH = 750w
Total of 1080 in my 180 at 72x24.

Thinking about adding in (have another full 6' hamilton systems lying around) but havent's done it yet -

4 2' 55W 7100k blues = 220w
3 175 tru 6.5k MH = 525w
Total of 745 + 1080 = 1825 of watts.

Going for different spectrums of lighting.

Living,

The different coloration is the reason I added my VHOs. I have enough light but I like lots of lights to be able to tweek the color. Right now its

2X165W 10K VHO
2X250W Hamilton 14K
2X100W Actinic VHO

Having this many lights also gives me the ability to have a sunrise and evening.

Dickie,

Great little piece of the reef!
