I'm a newbie to saltwater and have been reading posts here on RC for a couple years, learning tons. I've been collecting equipment all along, preparing to jump in. Although I'm not there yet, I'm getting close. I have some questions on lighting.
First off, I have a 125 with a PFO type light - (2) 175 MH, (1) 400 MH, and (2) VHO Actinic. That's what I plan to make the saltwater tank, starting out with FOWLR until I feel more comfortable. I also have a 110 that I'm putting in-wall. It has had two dual 110 W PC strip lights (two 55 W bulbs each). It is freshwater, but down the road, I'm anticipating wanting to switch it to Saltwater. My object is to make the wise choices now that will make the transition easier and less expensive, should I take that path. Heres' what I'd like to do; 1) Get a decent reflector that I can use later. Besides not knowing what to look for, I've noticed the choices for 5' lengths are few. I may have to use two 30" reflectors or cut down a 6' one. 2) Remove the lights from the two Oceanic strip lights and mount them in the new reflector 3) Purchase another ballast, etc and add another pair of 55 -65 W PCs to raise the total to 330 W. This will probably be better for the freshwater plants I'm trying to grow anyway. 4) Mount this over the in-wall tank somehow so that it can easily be removed/moved to access the tank. 5) Possibly add some moon lighting now. (It really looks cool, even on freshwater tanks). 6) When it comes time to switch to saltwater, add a couple MH lights. Any suggestions, thoughts, or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
