OK heres the link. Your post is in violation of the terms and conditions of use of this web site and has been edited. Further violations will result in revocation of your posting privileges.
These have been used many times and seem to be ok. Many have went back and forth on this unit. It will get the job done many have found but they are a cheap unit. I personally have a www.airwaterice.com unit. It has more bells and whisles. But a reefer on a budget can use this ebay unit. I would also recommend getting a TDS meter to check the water quality.

You get what you pay for, its worth about $59. The quality is not the best, it uses a Chinese membrane even though they claim its US made, it uses cheap granular carbon for a prefilter, the DI is not refillable. The list goes on and on. If you want a system that will last look at www.airwaterice.com, www. buckeyefieldsupply.com or www.purelyh2o.com. All use genuine Dow Filmtec RO membranes, good quality pre and carbon filters and true refillable DI filters and canisters.

I was originally going to buy the setup NDeep posted, but I've read a few places that the Horizontal (smaller) DI housings aren't as efficient as the larger Verticle setups, due to problems with trapping air causing water not to utilize the full amount of resin.
After reading ALOT of ro/di discussions I ended up buying http://www.airwaterice.com/c=bgDHDXP...roduct/1ESKIMO but had them set it up for warm climate w/pressure guage and Tds in/out should be here any day now. AZDesertRat seems to be the resident expert about these systems from all the past posts I've read, and seems to be repeating himself in each one...lol copy/paste...man....copy/paste |

So basically they were saying to use hot water with standard ro/di units???? And that one lets you use colder water? Y not just bust out the hot water then?

who was saying to use hot water? You should always use the cold on your RO/DI.

RO membranes are designed to produce their rated flow amount at 77 degrees F. Colder water produces less output and warmer water produces more, up to about 100 degrees or so. Do not go over 110 degrees as you can permanently damage the membrane very quickly.
Here is a link to Dow Filmtec membranes that shows the effects that temperature and pressure have on them. http://www.dow.com/PublishedLiteratu...romPage=GetDoc |

Buy the $59 unit, and a $25 dual TDS meter on ebay, and it will produce exactly the same water as those $400 units. If you want to overpay, you're paying for a name, and the right to say "i've got the flashmaster-2000 RODI unit" They all produce the same 0 TDS water. The one thing the $59 ones dont always come with is a refillable DI cartridge, so check that out. |

the expensive units are "the best". Theyre better looking, and often are built better, but they produce the same water, so from a functional standpoint, theyre all the same.
Buy an ebay unit, and spend the money you saved on getting a bigger skimmer than you thought you could afford.

Dow is not the only membrane manufacturer by far. Here in the US there are three major manufacturers plus several smaller companies that mainly produce larger capacity membranes for municipal systems and such. Dow Filmtec, GE Water also known as Osmonics and other names and Applied Membranes are the three major players. There are several Chinese and Tiawanese manufacturers that are making copies of US and European membranes. The Chinese have very lax copyright laws and copy just about anything made, some being pretty good quality. I have a 3500 W standby generator that is a copy of a Honda in almost all respects and works well.
I would still recommend the Typhoon III as it uses a genuine Dow Filmtec membrane which is still the best you can get. They are one of the only membranes that are fully ANSI/NSF certified for drinking water systems unlike some others that claim to be NSF certified but when you research them the certification is for "Pool and Spa Use" and not potable drinking water. |
