2x175w metal halides 14k (Iwasaki Auqa2) + 2x110w of VHO Actinic (URI). It is very bright with a decent amount of blue. I just switched from 10k halides (XM's) which was bright white with almost zero blue (even with the actinics).

Right now, XM 250 10K's on Ice cap ballasts. The color has shifted to a yellow after I had them for a few weeks. I also use URI super actinic R's on an Ice cap 660 ballast. Will be going back to Ushio 10k's when the XM's are used up.

I think the 20k's are too blue, but that is personal choice.

Yep,
I replace mine every 9 months after running about 6 hours a day. Sounds like it is time to replace. JR

im wondering if 4 vho super actinics with the 20 ks going to be too blue. hmm maybe the 10ks with the 440 vho will be enough to off set the white of the 10ks

If you use 4 actinics with 20K's, it will be be like looking into a blue light. Says K-Mart special all the way. Actually a 20K is very blue for me. If you add actinics to that, extreme blue. Sounds like you should look a few fellow reefers tanks to check out their lighting and make a decision prior to purchase. Look at several with different lighting before making a decision, wish I did before my first purchase.
