is this what I get for buying cheap thermometer?
Any suggestions are appreciated, I have a 120 gallon tank that I am starting, and it is currently filled with water, rocks, and 4x powerhead.
Last week I decided to purchase one of those $2 glass thermometers and threw it into the tank (one of those that sinks to the bottom). I live in CA and the weather is usueally nice, but even though it is rather cool in the morning the thermometer reads a temp of 78 degrees and this is without a heater on or any lights. When I set my Jager heater to 79, the temp read 87. When I turn on 1x MH the temp read 85. Is the thermometer off? If not, what could be causing this heat..4x maxi jets? I lived in Indiana and summer were very hot, but the tank still needed heating. Oh, and the tank is not near any window or household heater. Unusual........ |

Do you have lights on it yet? temps are usualy a bit higher at the top but not that much. Pumps will create half of the heat a tank will receive, lights the other. I like to use external pumps on a closed loop.
