I use a Mag float for Acyrlic tanks and use the acrylic safe algae pads. I cut them to shape on both sides of the Mag float. It sticks to the velcro like material pretty easily. Still have to be careful of picking up sand though.

Otherwise I'm happy. Its the scrapping of coraline that causes me to scratch the tank.

Whatever you use, take it out in between uses. Ensure that there's no sand or debris caught in the velcro before you go to use it again.

Credit can still scratch if misused.

I switched from the mag float to the Piranha - a world of difference. -
