skimmer trouble?

is it normal for a protien skimmer collection cup to completely fill with with foam and water in about ten minutes or is there somthing going on that i dont know about. also if its called a skimmer why is the intake 4 inches below the water line [redsea prizm skimmer] i know its a little cheap but is this unit a p.o.s.

I had a Red Sea Skimmer do exactly the same thing, i couldn't get the flow right,it would either over flow (like yours) or would dry up,tried modifying it to no avail, ended up throwing the piece of junk!

the cup is full of water with maybe 1/8 in. of foam. im seriously considering returing it and getting something decent. i've only had it four days so a return is no problem

Adjust your air intake and the flow regulator on the inlet pipe. It sounds like you have to much flow going in.

i would take it back, i used to have a cheap visatherm skimmer that did the same thing, as the water was mucky and was removing some waste. all i would get from the cup was a little foam over water. I bought a seaclone and its been working great, my collection cup is filled with black water that needs dumped about twice a month. And you can usually find a used on cheap online., Cheers
