in need of an industrial style chiller 1hp. noise isnt a factor. reliability is.
any suggestions? I have an industrial 1 HP chiller that has been working hard for over 10 years. It has finally stopped working unfortunatly. I'm having an A/C guy come out and see if he can diagnose the problem and possibly repair it. IF not, im wondering if there is a consensus on the best industrial style chiller (not compact design). Noise and space is not a issue. i need somthing that will last.
the tank is 500 gallon Reef and it has a couple large pumps for the system pump and skimmer pump (LG tec 5.5 for the skimmer and a March TE 7 for the system) without a chiller, the tank will get to 85+ degrees. I now have the skimmer pump off so heat is staying around 81-82 so im ok for the next day or two. I have a feeling its the fan that stopped working because it seems as if the compressor is kicking on and the coil gets a lil bit hot. but no fan turns on. If it cannot be repaired at a resonable cost, i want a new one. maybe il just buy a new one still and keep the repaired one as a backup. dunno. here are some pics of the tank. no pics of the chiller though. i forget the manufacturer of the chiller at the moment. http://homepage.mac.com/starpolyp/PhotoAlbum6.html thanks edit: i tried to do a search at RC before posting a thread but as usual, the search wont work due to too much RC traffic. i guess they want my $24 to be able to search. |

Chiller
This is what I have on my 525. I'm very pleased with the results. See my gallery pics. Several others on RC have built this chiller. First you would buy a titanium chiller barrel and then a condensing unit. Not difficult to hitch up. Sidewinder770 has a great post on his unit. If you need help I can guide you, but it's worth it.

Check out Champion Supply. They deal with "industrial style" chillers.

reefchow-
that is a really cool chiller you put together there. i love the idea of having the coil outside. great work. i hope to use that idea in the future. I had an a/c guy come out. and like i suspected, it was the fan motor that was out. he replaced the motor, tested, and cleaned the unit. it works great again. thanks for the ideas guys |
