local AZ guy saying hello
Hey all,
Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm running a 90 pentagon reef tank that has been up and running for about 10 years. In the last couple months I have been doing some needed upgrades. Added a 20 g refugium, PS and some new maxi jets for flow. The tank is not drilled so I've been limited to my equipment. Today I should have my Icecap T5 retrokit from reefgeek at my door. It'll be running with one 175w 14k hamilton. Might go back to a true 10K. the 14k is just to blue and I think (not sure) puts out less PAR. what's in the tank: pair of purc clowns unicorn tang six line wrasse pair of pajama cardinals 5 green chromis 2 emerald crabs coral banded shrimp fire shrimp assorted snails and hermits green star poylps that is taking over about three rocks large rock covered in zoos 1 medium acropora w/deep purple blue tips(not sure of exact name) The refugium has been up for about a month and has a nice DSB with mud from floriapets. Also picked got a portion of pods from them. Highly recommend them! My caulerpa is growing like a weed while the chaeto is not. Might be due to flow or lighting. Okay, I've rambled on long enough. I do want to ask if anyone would be interest in a piece of LR I have with about 25+ brown yumma mushrooms? I'm interest in SPS frags or zoas. http://www.msprotege.com/members/aze...s/IMG_0044.JPG |

Welcome to these parts, sounds like a nice tank!
I have the IC retro (4x24W) and another local has the same retro (4x39). We put a watt meter on them and I think mine was running overdriven by ~75% and his was overdriven by about the same amount. Its very bright! I am very happy to go back with 10K and Blue+ T5's. Still trying to find the right mix, but I have been getting great color and growth since going back.

Thanks! It's coming along. I do want to dump the PS I have and get something new. Current one I just can't seem to dial in and has a mind of its own. The footprint that it sits in is 6" x 12". Can someone suggest a protein skimmer I can drop in there? Brand, prices, links would be awesome.
I got the IC 2x39 36" Aquablue to Actinic/Blue Plus. Is this overkill and smurf my tank? Probably should go back to the 10K huh? |

I have two 14k 70w MH and four 24" 18W T5s (two 10k & 2 Act03) and the colors is near perfect. I'm going to put on my reefgeek two 24" T5 retro kit and see how that works.
I'm thinking that if you keep the 14k MH and add one or two 10k T5s you may get what you are looking for. I have some spare 24" T5 bulbs (Act03 and 10k) if you want to play around with it. I'm in Chandlerright near the Loop 202 so not too far from you. |

Thanks Aaron. I'll see what I can do with what I have and let you know. I'll post pictures once it's finished.

To Reef Central Please let us know how you like the T5s. By the way, how far across is a 90 gal pentagon tank?

Welcome!
That space you have for the protein skimmer is kind of tight but I think a Coralife Super Skimmer (the largest model they have) should fit.

The width is just over 3 feet. Not the best design but it makes a great corner tank. I'm loving the T-5's. I'm glad I spent the extra money and went with IceCap
Once the tax return comes in the mail I'll be shopping for Turbelle Stream Kit. Unless someone is DIY savvy and can mod a couple maxijet 600's for me. I can wrench on a car with ease but tend to injure myself when attempting anything else. I'll look into the coralife. my current **cough** eBay skimmer in teh suck! |

BTW, anyone local with a LARGE tank want to take or trade my vlamingi tang? I'll be honest I did not know it can get as big as 24" He's/she's roughly 3-4 inches and I got em at AA in mesa. I've had em for about 8-9 months. I'd love to get a kole or sailfin.

You never know. A Stream 6000 setup may be had for cheap if and when the Vortech pumps come out.
