Quiet, Energy Efficient & Releases VERY LITTLE Heat Submersible Pump?
Anyone have suggestions for a Quiet, Energy Efficient & Releases VERY LITTLE Heat Submersible Pump? I'm using a Mag7(700 gph), too noisey, so I definitely don't want to upgrade to the Mag9.5. I used a DolphinDP800 (800gph) that put too much heat back into the tank. Looking for something around 900+gph, but don't want to have a big electic bill either.

Virtually every watt consumed by the pump will end up as heat in the tank. If you're looking for lowest heat, check the wattage rating on the pumps that you're looking at.

I switched from a Mag7 to an Eheim 1260 for noise reasons. Besides being (MUCH) quieter, it totally blows away the Mag7 in flow despite what the paper numbers would indicate.

Again...
Forget the ratings. The 1260 smokes a Mag7. It flows way more in real applications. A few people on this board have made the switch and all have been very impressed with both the noise reduction and the big increase in flow.

I think the big difference is an Eheim doesn't fall flat on its face under head pressure like a Mag or QO pump. They actually have good flow when you do silly things to them like add plumbing and 4' of pumping height.

I think the Eheim is the only or at least one of the very few submersible pumps out there that can handle head pressure. It is very quiet and extremely reliable. People have had them running over 10 years. From everything I've seen they are the best submersible pump available.
I see WAY too many posts about QO pumps not starting. I woun't touch one myself. I'd rather use a Mag. At least they are reliable.

And I'll second it
Toss out truly expensive pumps like Red Dragon and it pretty much boils down to there's Eheim & everyone else. A 1262 would be WAY more flow than a MAG9.5 or Quietone equivilent. I have no proof but I suspect it's because Eheim rates the pump with the actual output size.....where companies like Danner (MAG) rate them with double or larger. Eheim - dead quiet, move a lot of water for the watts consumed, and have a track record of running more than a decade w/o a problem.

I like Premium Aquatics and shipping from them is good for me on the east, but I think Marine Depot has it on sale right now.

Eheim 1260
Thanks for the tips guys. I found it on Marine Depot for $110 and Custom Aquatics for $108... so looks like both have it on special right now.

HOw about Oceanrunner pumps? They have a pretty decent heard pressure also.

To me, Eheim is like Tunze and Deltec. You pay a little more, but it is well worth it.
BTW, you dont need to use the barb fitting it comes with. You can thread in a 3/4" MPT fitting. Use a sched 80 fitting since it has longer threads than a sched 40. Wrap it up with a few winds of Teflon tape and it will work great.

I replaced my Mag12 (110w) with a Eheim1262 (80w). The Mag was very quiet, but I suspect it added too much heat to my tank and I needed a backup pump anyway.
The Eheim1262 has a little less flow than the Mag12, equally quiet, and put less heat in the tank. I often hear people with smaller Mag pumps complaining about the noise but the Mag12 was the quietest pump I have. |

You might check this pump out too. Its flow curve and power consumption are insane.
http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merch...Category_Code= http://www.bluelineaquatics.com/prod...r_pump/ns.html At 4' of head you're looking at not quite 800 gpm but it only draws 40 watts! Might be a real possibility.

would I need the 1260 or the 1262, which one would work best? I would be using this for a 90g all glass mega flow tank in a 30 gallon sump in the stand.

Eheim 1260 is the best for your application. Worth the extra $$.
