Plumbing Help
Will be setting up a 120 gallon 48x24x24 with overflow and sump and I'm not sure the best way to plumb this, Ball valves? Gate Valves , check valves float switch etc.
The Bulkhead in the bottom of the tank will be 1 1/2 inch This will flow directly into the sump and feed an ASM G2 Skimmer. ASM has a sedra 3500 that will draw from the sump water. For the return I wa thinking of a quiet one 4000 going into a SCWD then into the tank. For internal circulation 2 Seio 1100. What type of valves do I need and where should I put them . How about a float valve, Where and what brand Thanks Tony |

I usually use ball valves, or union ball valves. Check valves tend to leak and I have never used a gate valve.
Put valves anywhere you can think you may want to stop water while you maintain your tank or possibly even make a water change easier.

Skip the SCWD. I tried one. Won't flow enough to make any difference in a 120. Made for small tanks. I had mine hooked up to a GEN-X PCX30 (1190 GPH @ 0 head) and it choked it down to about 50%. Also due to the high input, every time it changed directions it rattled and shuttered internally. Very annoying.
Two Seio 1100 will provide enough turnover. Don't waste you money on the SCWD. Does your 120 have single overflow? I put a ball valve on the return to throttle back the return pump. You don't need one on your drain. Gate valves offer more precise flow control (like on a skimmer feed), but I like ball valves because I can visualize the valve position by looking at them. |

I used all ball values when plumbing mine and I liked them because they allowed me to regulate the flow how I wanted. I have a design of my plumbing if you want. Let me know and I will send it to you
