Building LR formations above water

Hello,
I'm curious, when changing around an LR formations, does anyone have portions of the LR above the waters surface? Maybe for some creatures that may venture that high up in the tank?

Just some thoughts..

If it's out of the water, it's not live rock, it's a perch, or maybe a snail and crab by-pass.
