lifereef skimmer question
I just got a used lifereef VS3-24 and I cannot find any information on how to make it work. I know I need a gate valve. My question is can I use a mag5 that I ahev laying around for now untill I can upgrade to something better and how do I make it work? I guess that is 2 questions. Thanks
Jeremy

That skimmer needs a mag 9.5 or a mag 12. Try running the mag 5 for a while if its all you have to work with, you will need to have the gate valve almost closed to get the water level where you need it. As to how to make it work...pump output up to venturi, use a 90 to connect the two. gate valve goes on output of skimmer. Thats it, and like I said, that skimmer needs a big pump to work right.

I would skip any of the mags and go with a pressure rated external pump. Did you try calling Jeff at lifreef? I am sure he would be most willing to help you out.

I agree, I used an iwaki 40rlt on one and it dramatically increased performance, but the noise was out of controll (sounded like a spa). There are no submersible pressure rated pumps on the market.
