Can you provide more information please. Filtration type, substrate type and how long has the tank been up?

Generally high nitrates can be diluted. Frequent water changes. Light feeding or substantially reduced feedings.

Do you have coral in the tank? If it is fish only then the nitrates at 20 will not hurt the fish. If you want to have corals or have corals then you do need to work to reduce those.

Here is a good article to read to help you understand the nitrate process. The chemistry forum is a good place to spend some time.

Good Luck,

I think 5" or more.
Also, a bigger skimmer will help.

Need a little more info. --Nitrites, PH, what filter, ect. Your filter could be creating it.

Water changes will bring it down, but 20 is not TOOO high. If you have no Nitrites then you OK. Nitrates are bad but livable.

the remote deep sand bed is a 5 gallon bucket plumbed into the sump in which it is filled most of the way to the top with sand. thats it. Will help reduce nitrates but that is all it will help with.
