My purprle algea started to grow like crazy when

I added a crap load of charcoal. I have like several cups of it in there. I am not exactly sure how much. I use to use just a little charcoal and then one day I put a crap load in there. The purple stuff really started to come in. Now I have to scrape it off my glass. Its funny how only little thing can make all the difference. There was really no reason why I did this. I just decided to put a bunch in one day.
