Best in- sump skimmer

I have a 160 reef- currently (for the past 3 yrs) using a Kent Nautilus- not much of a producer! What can you reccomend?

DII - check out the poll I am currently running. Of 5 skimmer brands, Deltec has 50% of the votes. One more vote and there wont be a run-off....

The best in sump skimmer....that is a loaded question

High end skimmers: Bubble King / Deltec both are high$$$$$

When I begin setting up a 210G I will be going with the Internal 300 BK...pricey but I believe the skimmer is a very important piece of equipment.

I just order an ASM G3 with recirc mod/gate valve mod for my 90G.....should be here on Monday/Tuesday. I little overkill for a 90 but I plan on running dual skimmers on my 210. I am hoping this will be great value considering a similar Euro-Reef model cost in the neighborhood of 500-600 $ more.....

Once my ASM is in place I will share my feedback and pics.

Due to the height restriction- I can go 24-26 inches. Money isn't a concern. What model would I use? besides corals- I have (6) chromis, (3) firefish, (2) Ocellaris, lawn mower blenny, shrimp goby w/pistol shrimp, hectori goby,(2) cleaner shrimp, red serpent star, (4) sand sifting stars. A variety of soft, and lps corals. I intend to get a couple pf tangs yet. Thank you so much, Dawn.

ASM is the best skimmer for the money
if you get it at www.asmskimmer.com and buy the mods from them, It works as good as the most expensive skimmers out there for half the price

With that height I think you are better off with an H&S. I am getting one for my 225. Look here

After using every skimmer brand mentioned ;-) the consensus is right. Since you said money is no issue, Bubble King internals are probably the best for performance. After that Deltec and H&S are not far behind. Between those two, its really whichever is cheaper. You're in that category where Deltec is cheaper - the 1x1260. However height might be an issue. Deltec has a 701 model that looks really nice. H&S however has a line of internal skimmers that's a really good option that'll give you equal performance but save you a little money. You could go super overpowered and get a 2x1260 internal skimmer for that is only 23.5" and have the cleanest tank on reefcentral with this one for $1,299 http://www.finsreef.com/product.php?...at=253&page=1. Or these two for $899.

Then check the 701 Deltec at 23"

http://www.deltecusa.us/proteinskimmers/ap701.php

Or this BK at 25"

H&S,

But i think the question should be:

Whats the budget?

Whats the running cost limit?

Whats the tank size and stocking list?

Whats the spare parts availability?

how much noise cqn be generated?

And so on, only way to know is to try and see the ones you are considering in the flesh and pref running a tank.

These questions are just too subjective;

Dawn II, you asked about EuroReef. They make a quality product. If one of the EuroReef models fits your specs, order from Marine Depot, you won't have any customer service problems.

Donski,

How do you figure ordering Euro Reef from Marine Depot will result in good customer service?

Mine came from MD and I was told I had to go to ER/H2O to buy a part. My nightmare started at that point.

Ok my bad, but you need to get over it. You have a vendetta against EuroReef. Sorry but Mike Tice told me to tell you. I agree, if you can afford Deltec why bother with ASM or Euro.

Fliger- the Deltec 701 seems like overkill for my tank- the APF600 seems more in line with my size tank- what do you think?

I'd go for the 701. You move from an Aquabee to an Eheim pump.

Be aware that they are both "external" skimmers, but that doesn't mean they cant be run in sump anyway. They both also need to be fed either via gravity from the drain or an additional pump.

I would go to the Deltec forum and ask some opinions there as well.

The H&S are also nice. They have models that are direct fed and models that are not.

Deltec also has non direct fed skimmers in the "Turbo Skimmer" line.

Its probably fine. If your total water volume is around 160 and you don't have a huge bioload. The APF600 is really nice, I've seen it in action. H&S version is $650, it is the A150. Here is a pic in action from another RC user. Both really awesome skimmers.

Good luck and post pix when you get it.

Definitely, good point! Just because they're called "external" doesn't mean they have to be run external. They can sit in sump. I prefer them (a LOT) because you can gravity feed them from the overflow. The best way to run a high end skimmer like this.

Yeah, always a tough call between the Bubble King, Deltec, H&S and SeaClone.
