sump setup

Hey guys

Okay ... moving along nicely in my plans thus far. Here is an idea I have on my sump setup.

I have a 100 gallon tanks. Overflow drains water into a 30 gallon tank which contains a protein skimmer and two fulval 404 inputs. The two fluval 404 outputs empty into a 10 gallon tank. This tank contains a mag 12 pumping water back into my 100 gallon.

Do you guys see any problems with this? Are there better ways to setup these parts.

Thanks guys !!!

I would use an overflow to move water into the 10g tank. Trying to match the output of a series of pumps won't work.

Let me get this straight....

The Mag12 is going to return water into the display which is going to overflow into the 30gal... and then you are going to independently rely on two Fluval 404s to move the water from the 30gal to the 10gal where it meets the Mag12?

That is crazy. If the Fluvals don't move the water fast enough into the 10 gal then either the 30gal will overflow or the 10gal will run dry (whichever happens first....but both will occur).

If the Fluvals move the water faster than the Mag 12 can return it then the 10gal will overflow.

Also, the constant change in water volume in the 30gal will cause lots of problems for the protein skimmer because it expects constent water pressure which is effected by the water volume.

As bertoni mentioned you could put an overflow between the two sumps....but that would be more of a problem than just buying a 55-75gal sump.

Get one real sump and save the other tanks for quarentine or mixing tanks.

cool - thks for the input guys. Was just a thought but your comments make perfect sense. I think to start off with I will just stick with the 30 gallon sump and run everything in that ... maybe later I will upgrade to a larger sump.

Thanks again for your time !!!!!!
