What kind of skimmer? What additives are you putting in the tank?

Do you have the return tube as far down as possible?

Is the venturi clogged?

Some say that they have found a small piece of plastic caught in the venturi.

Are you using tap water conditioners?

Are the bubbles causing the overflow or is it just water?

Is it in saltwater?

There where bubbles last night, but none now?

Did the airline fall off the venturi?

Put the return pipe all the way down. Leave down for 24-48 hours. Then raise it about two inches a day until you get the skimmate you want. With a new tank this will take a while to adjust.

Turn the skimmer on and you should be able to see bubbles if you look down through the collection cup.

If you have it back on is it overflowing?

When my tank was cloudy after aquascaping, I had to turn my skimmer way down to keep it from overflowing. Once the cloudiness cleared, I had to raise the level significantly to get it skimming normally. Particulates in the water can certainly affect the performance of the skimmer.

I just ran mine on the lowest setting possible. And it would fill the cup fast. Since i was home playing with the tank I kept draining it and each time it slow streach out the time it took to fill it up. After doing this 20x i think the skimmer was starting to get a handle on it. The sand will make it produce some cement looking crap in the cup. Your sand storm is causing this skimmer problem. BUt i would try to run it as much as possible to pull what ever it can outta the water.
