Eheim 1260 or 1262 for lifereef single overflow?
Same as the subject. I was thinking the 1260, but would the overflow handle the 1262? Thanks
This is on a 125g with this plumbing: ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by jmccalip; 02/24/2006 at 11:46 AM. |

I believe that the LR overflow (rated at 700 gph) should be able to handle the 1262. With 4' of head, the 1262 will be down to just under 700 gph.
IMO the ? is how much flow do you really want going through the overflow/sump? I think that in almost all cases I can think of, the 1260 would be enough pump and quite possibly the better choice between those two. I was facing the same decision a while back and actually decided to go with the 1250 (and a smaller u-tube) in order to have a lower flow rate through the sump.

Agreed; except he could just want more display flow without using powerheads, etc. eee |

I run a LR single and a 1260. Very nice match. The Eheim pumps put out more than you would think. I think the 1262 would be a lot for the LR to handle.

I run a 1262 and it puts out a LOT more flow than the stats indicate it should. If the overflow only rates at 700 gph you may encounter trouble IMO. Better to have a safety margin than having the return pushed right to the limit and then a snail/nori/macro algae gets clogged in there and you get an overflow...
Go with the 1260.

Ditto that. The 1262 sucks enough water that my two over-flow system is a little noisier than I'd like.

I have two lifereef overflows on my 125 with a 1262 and I still use a gate valve to adjust it. A single one will handle the flow but it gets too noisy for me.

My 1262 puts out about 800 gph at 4' of head pressure -- don't believe the numbers Eheim underrates the pumps.
Get the 1260.
